Volunteer Awards for 2025/2026
For our 2nd year, we are leveraging the Curling Ontario Volunteer Award program to recognize outstanding volunteerism in our club!
This year again we solicited for nominations and appointed a small committee to review
and determine the winners. We received 16 nominations and would like to thank all those
who took time to submit their comments.
Andy Skipworth
Andy retires from the Board this year, having looked after our fundraising portfolio – championing and running events such as Moonlight Madness, our golf tournament as well as organizing merchandise and rock handle sponsorship. He has also served as our Ice Manager. One season, when our Ice Tech was sick, he pretty much became the Ice Tech for a few months.
Taking it upon himself to build his expertise through additional training, Andy is passionate about creating a great experience on ice for us all, and diligently oversees his team that looks after installing and removing our ice plant each year. Andy is continuing as our Ice Manager and valuable member of our Capital Project Committee!
Mary Carr
Mary has made many contributions to our club over many years – including serving as our President. She has supported many a bonspiels as drawmaster, organized, baked for and entertained us all!
For several years now Mary has played the crucial role of running our Learn to Curl program. This is a critical program for our club, being the entry point for new member. Mary’s dedication to this program has ensured our club continues to flourish and
grow.
Thank you so much Mary, for your service to our club and for ensuring we all have fun along the way!
Mary was not able to be at the meeting to accept her award in person as she was away on one of her exciting travel adventures, so we will present it to her at a later date and be sure to share a photo.
Bruce Hooey
Bruce has served as our Treasurer over the last 5 years. While most of his work takes place “behind the scenes”, the financial health of our club affects us all. He spends hours each week ensuring bills are paid, member expenses are reimbursed and our books are balanced.
Bruce supported our OTF grant application last year, preparing all the necessary financial documentation that supported our successful application. In addition to his role as Treasurer, Bruce convenes 2 leagues, has previously convened our Brandon Bonspiel, and spends his Sunday afternoons early in the season, coaching our new Learn to Curl members!
Thank you Bruce, for your time serving on our Board and for your ongoing volunteer support of our club!
