CurlOn Clinics Program is offering a free clinic series!

CurlON is offering FREE 3-hour skills analysis clinics to all CurlON Member Club members, through a regional delivery series. Attendees may register as a traditional or stick-delivery option with dedicated instruction at any of the listed stops. All those interested in attending the FREE Skills Analysis offering, will be required to register with CurlON for the upcoming 2019-20 season (beginning August 24). Follow the event links below for all stops and to register.

Special prizes and giveaways will be available at each CCP FREE Clinic Series stop. Each registrant is entered to WIN A FREE TRIP to the 2020 Tim Horton’s Brier in Kingston! Registrants may select additional on-ice 3-hr Video Analysis Clinics ($30) and off-ice 2-hr Strategy Clinics (Review or Intermediate, $20) at a paid option, at any of these CCP FREE Clinic Series locations to make it a mini curling workshop experience. All offered clinic resources may be accessed through the link below!

FREE CLINIC OFFERING

The FREE 3-hour Skills Analysis Clinic is best suited to a curler with 1-2+ years of experience. For traditional or stick curlers, this clinic will review delivery fundamentals with an increased focus on skill analysis/fault correction. After technical review of each aspect of the delivery, participants will have an opportunity to practice the skill and receive feedback for improvement. The majority of this clinic will be conducted on the ice. Time will be reserved at the conclusion of the clinic for additional feedback from clinicians on any aspect of the delivery.

PAID CLINIC OPTIONS

Registrants will also have the option to select from a variety of additional clinics scheduled throughout the event:

VIDEO ANALYSIS – $30.00

This 3-hour clinic is largely conducted on ice, with a short off-ice delivery review preceding on-ice analysis. Participants will have an opportunity to practice their delivery, be videotaped and immediately receive technical feedback. After opportunity to correct identified delivery faults/areas for improvement, participants will have an opportunity again to be videoed and receive feedback. 

STRATEGY REVIEW CLINIC – $20.00

This 2-hour off-ice clinic will review some of the basic concepts of strategy. This clinic is suitable for curlers with little to moderate strategic knowledge or experience, or front end players looking to learn more about strategy. This clinic will address the three different types of strategy, how to employ these strategies with appropriate shot selection, factors that influence strategy, and how to play to your team’s strengths. There will be opportunity to engage in discussions regarding different strategic scenarios.

INTERMEDIATE STRATEGY CLINIC – $20.00

This 2-hour off-ice clinic will address intermediate strategy and would be appropriate for curlers with vice/skip experience. This clinic will build on the basic concepts of strategy by introducing concepts like shot tolerance, end plans, game plans, angles, drag effect and will provide time to actively engage through discussions regarding different shot scenarios.

Wow! What a terrific day!

I just wanted to write this note to thank and recognize all of the volunteers who made our first Curling 101 for Kids a great success. Our curling club signed on to this joint venture with Curling Canada. Curling Canada agreed to fund Rocks and Rings in our local elementary schools in exchange for us hosting the Curling 101 for Kids at the Fenelon Falls Curling Club. Children and their parents from the local elementary schools were invited to our club for a free, on ice, introduction to our fine sport in the hopes that they would catch the curling bug and join our Youth Learn to Curl.

Curling 101 for Kids was held on November 2 and we had a terrific group of kids and parents participate, laugh and learn. Twenty-four children and seventeen parents joined us for the event and I received thank you’s and positive messages from everyone I spoke to and two parents so far have contacted me to say what a great time they had.

I would like to recognize the volunteers and express my appreciation for the hard work and enthusiasm all of the volunteers brought to the day.

Thanks to Fraser and Leslie Anderson for preparing our ice for the day. Based on the feedback the kids and parents really enjoyed their first curling experience, on ice.

Thanks to Katherine Peel for her assistance with organizing and her efficient registration of the participants, as well as the decorating. I am always amazed at the energy and availability of people like Katherine with such a full plate.

Thanks to Doug Peel for assisting with the organizing of the day and sponsoring the lunch for all of the attendees. I hope he enjoys the mixed blessing of increased numbers in the Youth Program, as a result of the Curling 101 for Kids.

Thanks to Gail Allman for organizing the delicious lunch and Eve Miller and Leeanne Bingham for working with Gail to prepare and serve the food to the hungry appreciative participants.

Thanks to Brian Markle for being our photographer for the event. Please take time to have a look at the terrific slide show he created, in the next couple of weeks, as we show it on the TV at the club before the league play.

Thanks to Winston and Amanda Fleming -Smirkle, Bruce Jepson, Agnes Markle, Cheryl Medhurst, Bev Purvis and Clive Walton for providing such fun, on ice, assistance and encouragement to the children and parents who came to curling 101.

And last, but certainly not least, a very special thanks to Karen Jepson for doing such a great job providing clear and easy to understand, on ice instruction to a very large group of total newbies.

I know we wouldn’t have a curling club without bricks and mortar and rocks and rings, but the true success of the Fenelon Falls Curling Club lies in the enthusiastic supportive members who make events come together so successfully. Thanks to all.

The first mixed Four Town was held in Haliburton Saturday October 19th 2019. We had a wonderful time enjoying a delicious chili lunch, scrumptious baked goods and the curling was great!   Karen Jepson skipped her team of Greg Young, Darlene Young, and Bruce Jepson to come in second in the bonspiel.  Grant Allman's team which incluced Gail Allman, Shirley Hackett and Ian Hackett placed fourth.  This bonspiel was a friendly and fun opportunity to get out on the ice to kick off the curling season!
